Employment Opportunity: NLAC Program Assistant (one year contract), St. John’s
The Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC) is seeking applications for the position of Program Assistant.

DEFINITION OF WORK
Work involves providing administrative support to the Program Manager, Program Officer and Labrador Cultural Outreach Officer for the nine grant programs presently offered by the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council (NLAC). Work is performed with considerable initiative and independence under the general guidance of the Executive Director.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conducting an initial review of all applications to ensure applications meet basic eligibility requirements and flagging any areas of concern
- Creating files and managing support materials
- Creating and maintaining ongoing databases and a final report database
- Conducting checks on final reports from applicants, compiling lists of applications requiring final reports, and contacting applicants who owe final reports
- Creating documents related to each application session including summary sheet, assessment forms, etc.
- Copying, packaging, and sending out applications to peer assessors
- Creating official letters to applicants
- Creating grant acceptance forms for all successful applicants
- Organizing support material to be returned to applicants after the assessment process
- Offering general information on NLAC grant programs to the general public, artists, and arts organizations
- General office duties including filing and answering the telephone
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A university degree or the equivalent in professional experience
- This position demands a dedicated individual who has the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Knowledge of the cultural sector in Newfoundland and Labrador and experience working with non-profit cultural organizations
- Strong typing and computer skills including Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word
POSITION DETAILS
This position is located in St. John's.
This position reports directly to the Executive Director of the Newfoundland and Labrador Arts Council.
Salary: $35,854 plus benefits and pension per annum.
